What is a Birth Doula?

A birth doula is a labor support person who stays with you during labor and birth and provides emotional encouragement and support, physical comfort and pain relief, and helps you to find your voice in the world of decision making surrounding birth. As a birth doula I work for you, not your care team or hospital.

Studies have shown that the inclusion of a birth doula in your birth team who provides continuous support can:

  • decrease the risk of Cesarean up to 39%
  • increase the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth up to 15%
  • decrease the use of any medications for pain relief
  • shorten labor
  • decrease the baby’s risk of a low five minute Apgar score
  • decrease the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

During the unprecedented times brought on by COVID-19, I also developed a virtual support option that I plan to continue offering even after the pandemic is over. More information about both options can be found below.

In-Person Birth Doula Service

In-person Birth Doula Service includes:

  • Ongoing birth support by email, text or phone leading up to your birth.
  • 2 Prenatal in-person visits – a time for us to get to know one another, your birth partner if you plan to have one, your preferences and how I can best support you. I will also demonstrate the relaxation and comfort techniques I plan to use when you are in labor.
  • Exclusively on-call for your birth from 38 weeks to 42 weeks. Note: I do NOT double book clients with due dates falling within the same on-call period. In other words, I am YOURS and only yours for those 29 days.
  • Continuous in-person support by video call, phone, or text during your labor and birth and until one or two hours postpartum.
  • 1 postpartum in-person visit after your baby is born.
